HAISAJI 灰匙 (temae)- ash spoon

Originally ceramic (Chojiro made); later, in Rikyu's time copper, bronze, iron, Sahari, Karakane, oban & koban gold coins; inlaid; found (Korean sahari spoons, etc.) and Konomi pieces; ceramic made of Raku (for Dairo /Gengensai), Kiseto

Furo-small spoon, usually all metal- black patinated (shakudo?), copper, Sahari, Nanryo, silver, bronze; unusual pieces: Korean, Chinese eating spoons; daimyo & merchant princes used gold coin- Oban / Koban; iron inlaid / gold susuki, moon

Konomi- handle wrapped with Takenokawa bamboo sheath, tied with (white) thread; used to add Fujibai to ash form & during the Temae, to cut & refill "tsuki" in form; ash form spoons and cutting spoons kept and used seperately so as not to ruin or make Takenokawa ugly for Temae. Handle 0.5(15.2 cm) of which 0.4.5(13.6 cm)is wrapped; spoon 0.1.2(3.6 cm) wide

Ro- larger, flat copper or brass spoon, often black lacquer or patinated, with mulberry/kuwa wood or Sakurakawa wrapped handle, or gold, silver, Nanryo, etc. used to fill Ro with Shimeshibai and add more Shimeshibai during Temae; Many konomi; Rikyu's is sashikomi-stuck into handle and wrapped / wire; Shokyakuan's is hollow tube attached with nail; handle 0.4.7(14.2 cm), spoon 0.2.2(6.7 cm) long by 0.1.8(5.5 cm) wide / 0.1 tang

Mizuya:

Sokotori- 底取 Ro and furo sizes; metal scoop/ spoon at right angles to hollow handle; wrapped with bamboo sheath and string; essential for go-sumi shomo and mawarizumi (both ro only)
